Horton Point Names Smith As Chief Investment Officer

Multi-asset investment manager Horton Point LLC has named industry veteran and former Credit Suisse Asset Management executive Laurence Smith as the firm’s new chief investment officer.

In his new role, Smith will be responsible for creating customized multi-asset products and advise key clients on global asset allocation, investment strategy, and manager selection, the company said in a statement. He will also chair Horton Point’s investment committee.

Smith currently oversees all investment activities of Third Wave Global, a family office-based global macro asset management firm. He will continue to run the portfolio of Third Wave Global, which may become available to qualified investors through Horton Point’s platform.

Smith was global CIO and CEO of Credit Suisse Asset Management from 1999-2003. In that position, he was responsible for all investment activities worldwide, including traditional and alternative products.  Under his tenure, CSAM’s AUM grew to $300 billion.

Beforehand, Smith spent 18 years in senior management roles at J.P. Morgan, most recently as global head of asset allocation at J.P. Morgan Investment Management, where he created and executed the investment processes that drove the firm’s macro decisions, as well as building a U.S.-based multi-product asset allocation business.

“We are excited and honored to have a professional of Larry’s stature to join our team,” said Dimitri Sogoloff, CEO of Horton Point.  “He brings a wealth of knowledge and institutional expertise which will further strengthen our unique value proposition”.

Founded in 2006 as a family office, Horton Point has evolved into a diversified multi-asset platform of more than 60 boutique hedge funds offering over 100 investment products. The platform is accessible by accredited investors globally via its online technology affiliate, HFIN One.
